THE GYLAER'S VOICE: GYLA IS A MAGIC PLACE. USE IT WISE, JUST LIKE HOW IT IS

Niu Ze, Harbin Institute of Technology

Life in GYLA is never easy. Every participant has lectures to follow, workshops to attend, and international organizations to visit. No matter how informed you ever thought you were, you are constantly exposed to new concepts, new thoughts, new ways of thinking, and a new yourself. You have no time to slow down. The only choice is to learn and grow. However, GYLA is also fun for the same reasons. In so many ways GYLA does prepare us to become a decent thinker, a good practitioner, and a global leader in the future.

Professionals in GYLA taught me how to work. I am so lucky to attend GYLA on site and witness the combination of professionalism, humor, and deep care of the lecturers. I can feel how hard GYLA fellows work to make sure this program proceed smoothly. I learned from Mr. Clegg how to preserve the purest part in heart regardless of what challenge is in front of us. I was touched by tutors who dedicatedly attended lectures with us.

In GYLA, there are many wonderful peers. Some people geek out about the drain system in Duomo di Milano; some discuss with you about questions in law; some present excellent performance playing traditional Chinese musical instruments. You can become friends with a history major who happens to speak fluent French. You can meet some people who are so obsessed with Russian language and its culture, and you sing an Italian song with them at closing ceremony… I conceive it is my honor to meet so many interesting people, and all I really need to do is to learn from them and become into a better person.

GYLA is a magic place. Use it wise, just like how it is.
