The first largest GYLA offline program was organized at UN campus in Turin, Italy on 5 August 2019. Over 230 college students and tutors from 17 top Chinese universities participated in GYLA-Summer Programme on Building on Youth Talent: Developing the Next Generation of Global Leadership for the UN 2030 Agenda. These were 17 universities: Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Nankai University, Fuzhou University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China Agricultural University, China University of Labour Relations, Harbin Institute of Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Jilin University, Nanjing University of Finance and Economics, Shandong University, Southeast University, Tianjin Universityand University of Electronic Science and Technology of China.
On August 5, the opening ceremony was held and many senior UN officials attended the ceremony, including Mr. Oumarou D. Moussa, Deputy Director-General of the ILO. Mr. Oumarou made keynote speech focusing on three areas: the role of youth in transforming the world, challenges and opportunities for the new generation, and how young people can change their thinking and future. He said" The past is in your head; the future is in your hands." He encouraged the participants to take the opportunity of GYLA to learn more and grow more.
